13.1 Miles

Here is the story of our marathon day...

The day before the marathon Steven told me that he had decided to run the half marathon instead of the full so that he could run with me. That news made me very excited and about 40% less nervous then I was to run by myself.
The morning of the marathon we got to the shuttle stop (where they were going to take us to the start of the marathon) and we heard someone call out:
"All FULL marathoners please get to the front of the line." Steven heard this and immediately changed his mind. He looked at me and told me that he was going to run the full marathon, and that he would meet me at the finish line and then he kissed my forehead and ran off catch the shuttle for the full marathon.
(This story is very one sided so I hope that Steven will get on here someday and give his input about the marathon too.)
I got on my own bus full of strangers and got dropped off in a sea of people. I made my way to the check in station so I could put away my jacket, and then I made my way to my starting group. Now, I am not going to lie I was super disappointed that Steven took off to run the full marathon after getting my hopes up that he would run with me. As my group was getting ready to go I felt someone wrap their arms around me and squeeze me. i turned around and guess who it was... Steven decided that he would run the half marathon with me instead! Apparently he had been searching for me ever since he got off of his bus, which was about 30 minutes.
He stayed with me the entire time, even when I was a baby and just wanted to walk.
I felt bad for holding him back but he told me that for this marathon that he had 2 goals. 1. to finish, and 2. to finish with me. I am happy to report that he reached his 2 goals.
Throughout the marathon my knee hated me so at one point Steven made me hop on his back and he gave me a piggy back ride for about 2 minutes. It was amazingly fun. (that is not cheating right?) I am so so so happy that he stayed with me the whole time. We had so much fun and even though I am never going to run again (maybe) I am glad I did it. Thank you Steven for pushing me!
It's OK that my body hates me today. I have to teach myself how to walk all over again through pain but at least I got a dope medal out of it.

  2. Way to go guys!
I maybe probably would have cried if Mike left like that, and then cried again with happiness when he came back. What a good guy, and I bet it was much more fun running it all together.

  4. Sorry, I can't even concentrate. I saw that P.F. Chang's logo on your numbers, and that's all I can think about now. Dang pregnancy. I'm jealous. I can't run anymore for 8 more months - I am officially too barfy. :)

  7. Karlenn- Um yeah I kept going during the marathon with hopes that they would be handing out PF Changs food at the finish line (it makes sense right?) Yeah... no such luck. Severe disappointment.
